Baked Alaska

You might be disappointed if you really thought I was posting a recipe for a baked Alaska.  This is just our way of reliving our 20th anniversary cruise through the inside passage of Alaska… stirring up a melting cake.

Melting Cake was the dessert of choice most nights on our Alaskan Cruise in 2010.  One of the first things I googled upon arriving home was a recipe for these rich, gooey delights and some of the first things I bought were the ramekins.  I tried one or two recipes and finally combined two to come up with this version that seems to at least satisfy the memory of the dessert, if not quite an exact version.  I also found that adding the hot water bath gave more of a pudding effect than a regular baking method.  Most of the family likes them hot, with vanilla ice cream melting into the creamy chocolate. I like them warm but actually prefer them chilled!  So I usually end up making two batches to have a leftover cup the next day.

Looking at this recipe the other day, I realized that I know exactly what I mean when I look at my chicken scratched notes.  I wonder if anyone else can make any sense of them, though!

  1. That looks unbelievably chocolately! My notes are usually scribbled on whatever is near to hand, I have real difficulty sometimes deciphering them, especially if I have altered it on a secord or third batch rather than starting a new one!
